It is a strange feeling reliving one’s youth, yet integral to overcoming one’s past.
The selection of poems contained within “Shroud of Thought” are one person’s struggle to grasp how they became who they are today. It is like sifting through ashes for the acorn within the oak tree.
Follow our speaker as they traverse the transition from childhood to adulthood in a series of poems that mix the confusion of love, life, and anomie. “Shroud of Thought” is an ode to the growing pangs the mind experiences finding the true self.
My name is Michael “Dags” D’Agostino. I am a singer/songwriter and poet who lives in South Jersey just outside of Philadelphia with my wife and dog. It is here that I pursue my creative endeavors. I have a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Temple University.
Recently I had a life altering event happen that told me that life is too short to waste on trivial matters and worrying about things over which I have no control. For this reason I set out to produce a compendium of my own works, both musical and literary.
In 2021 I began to record, and produce solo EPs of songs that I have written over the years. As well published my first of many books of poetry, titled “On This Site: Collected Poems Volume I.” More music is in the works and I am working on the second volume of poetry “Shroud of Thought: Collected Poems Volume II.”
The music and poems that I write are based on my analysis of our world from my own unique perspective. However, I cannot encapsulate my view in one sentence as it is still forming from day to day. What I do notice is that said view is becoming more fluid as I age. With hope I will one day attain some form of wisdom, but the continual life lessons I learn make it impossible to fully nail down my view of this life. Luckily this constant flux of ideas guides my creativity and I could not be happier with the artistic process my mind provides.
